Aline Xavier
Aline Xavier (b.1984, Belo Horizonte) is an artist engaged in cross-disciplinary, collaborative, process-led research. Currently based between Brazil and South Africa, holds a post-graduate in Contemporary Art: Critics and Curating at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais and Inhotim Art Center (2010) and B.A. in Social Communications with a Minor in Cinema at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2006).
Her works were screened and exhibited in institutions like Mohsen Gallery in Iran, Goodman Gallery in South Africa, Marta Moriarty Gallery in Spain, Georges Pompidou Centre in France, Cinemateca do Uruguay in Uruguay, Itaú Cultural, Container Art, Oi Futuro, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, Gasômetro, Centro Cultural FIESP, SESC, Mostra de Cinema de Tiradentes, Mostra do Filme Livre, in Brazil.
She shared the direction of Wild African Catfish (2012) and Hollow of Holes (2006), working with local communities in Minas Gerais. She was one of the curators and directors of the art and technology lab, Marginalia+Lab (2009-2012) and is the founder and executive-director of 88 Art Cinema (2006-ongoing), having worked with awarded artists and filmmakers.
Prizes include 19th Videobrasil Art prize (2015), Special Jury Award for Language Innovation at the 14th Vitoria Cine Video Film Festival (2008) and Special Jury Award at the 8th Goiania Film Festival (2008). Art residencies include Thami Mnyele Foundation (Amsterdam, 2017), Kooshk (Tehran, 2016), LABMIS (Sao Paulo, 2012) and Motomix (Sao Paulo, 2006).
