Nisren Abasher Ahmed (born in Sudan, Omdurman) graduated in sculpture in 2006 at the College of Fine Arts, Sudan University. Besides sculpture she also works with animation and performance.
Khartoum is the capital of Sudan and the seat of government. The city of Khartoum is composed of three areas: Khartoum proper; North Khartoum, primarily an industrial area; and Omdurman, once the capital of the Mahdist government. Omdurman is the second largest city in Sudan and Khartoum State, lying on the western banks of the River Nile, opposite the capital, Khartoum. Omdurman has a population of 2,395,159 (2008) and is the national centre of commerce. With Khartoum and Khartoum North or Bahri, it forms the cultural and industrial heart of the nation.
This is the area where Nisren Ahmed lives and which is a big inspiration for Nisren:
"The houses are very old, made of clay. This style of houses gave me a lot of opportunity, like making paintings shadows and using what the people leave. I elaborate a lot of ideas when I get into these houses.I grow up in this environment that is full of colours and animals; I focus on these buildings and try to reflect the life inside them after the people leave them"
Since 2006 Nisren Ahmed is taking part in many national and international exhibitions.
She will be artist-in-residence at the Thami Mnyele Foundation from March till end of May 2012.
