2023-06-07 | Fellow Kwanele Finch Thusi: performance PINA at the Naledi Awards in Joburg Theatre
Congratulations to Thami Mnyele Foundation fellow Kwanele Finch Thusi whose work PINA has been selected and shown at the Naledi Awards in Joburg Theatre on 5 June.
The Naledi Theatre Awards was founded in 2004 and is recognised as the Premier Awards Event on the Gauteng Theatre Calendar.
The full version of Kwanele Finch Thusi's work PINA has been shown at Afrovibes festival.
Back in 2022, in collaboration with Afrovibes festival, Thami Mnyele has awarded Thusi with Thami Mnyele Residency award to prepare for his performances at the Afrovibes Festival.
With Pina, South African dancer Kwanele Finch Thusi is building a new mythology of black and queer bodies and identities. In this way he/she opens new frameworks to reduce the image of a society that mainly sees masculinity as strong, powerful and masculine, by confirming and showing the vulnerability and gentleness of the male body. For Kwanele Thusi, his own black queer identity is the starting point for all his work.
