2023-07-19 | Jabu Arnell: exhibition at Metro54 in Amsterdam

Happy to share that our fellow Jabu Arnell is having an exhibition 'Snapshots: Jabu Arnell and Friends. A show in collaboration, a work in process'Â at Metro54 in Amsterdam!

For the series SNAPSHOTS, Metro54 invite artists, collectives, makers and cultural producers to research, work-through and conjure a space for breath, rehearsal and questions that centralizes processes, histories, collaborations and experiments. SNAPSHOTS are artistic gatherings and social environments where slow (un)making of artistic work are investigated.

SNAPSHOTS unfolds over the next few years and is inaugurated with an invitation to Amsterdam-based artist Jabu Arnell. Arnell's artistic process is not bound by detailed plans. Instead, he embraces a fluid approach when preparing for an exhibition. For #1 starts with an invitation and unfolds into an open research studio, where Arnell experiments with found materials, Black histories, fermentation processes, dialogic gatherings, (material) kinship and clay.

This show/studio/artistic gathering echoes a loosely defined idea allowing the work to take shape and materialize through conversation with visitors and collaborators such as another Thami Mnyele fellow Dineo Bopape and Serubi Moses. It is an open-ended show, where the beginning and end are non-linear and improvised as we go, holding space for those that are now present from other forms.

The exhibition is open until 6th August.
