2023-08-23 | Join us for the Southeast Parade Amsterdam this Saturday, August 26th, starting at 14:00 from Bonte Kraai!
We are happy to share that our current resident and Thami Mnyele Foundation Award winner Quentley Barbara will be joining the South East Parade this Saturday, 26th of August! The parade will start at 14:00 from Bonte Kraai, Kraaiennest 68, 1104 CD Amsterdam, and will go to 18:00, finishing at Hoekenrode.
Barbara was awarded with the residency award in collaboration with CBK Zuidoost, curator Renske de Jong and Delano Mac Andrew. Barbara created his works for the parade and the upcoming exhibition at CBK Zuidoost during his time in Thami Mnyele Foundation residency. The event is organised by CBK Zuidoost and Sankofa Archives.
Quentley Barbara, together with artists Frederick Calmes and Monika Dahlberg, were invited for the project 'Revolt, Black Resistance in Image’. Commissioned by CBK Zuidoost and together with residents of Zuidoost, three artists created images of enslaved people who revolted against their rulers in the former colonial areas. These images will be carried through Amsterdam Southeast during the SouthEast Parade. The project, 'Revolt, Black Resistance in the Picture', is led by Delano MacAndrew.
After the parades, the works will be exhibited in the courtyard at CBK Zuidoost.
