2025-08-27 | Ina Van Zyl: in a group show at Nederlands Steendrukmuseum

Our fellow Ina van Zyl is participating in a group exhibition 'The Promise of Life' at Nederlands Steendrukmuseum of Litography.

The hopeful phrase “the promise of life” carries a raw undertone. Tied to that promise is an unavoidable sense of decay. Artists Lieve Hakkers (1996), Joost Krijnen (1983), Niko Riedinger (1986), Dieke Venema (1990), and Ina van Zyl (1971), together with master printer Gertjan Forrer (1959), explore this apparent contradiction through the layered possibilities of contemporary lithography. The Promise of Life presents the unique outcomes of this intricate journey – from the small, colorful, yet slightly macabre lithographs of Joost Krijnen, to Dieke Venema’s monumental canvases printed using lithography. From the quiet, investigative works of Ina van Zyl, to the bold, intuitive prints of Lieve Hakkers and Niko Riedinger.

Preserving the artistic craft of lithography is more vital than ever. Only a handful of places remain where the technique can still be practiced, and where the knowledge to guide artists is still alive. With the development of a new studio and the introduction of a Collaborative Art Printer, the Dutch Museum of Lithography is becoming the central hub for lithographic art in the Netherlands – and far beyond. A true promise of life for the future of artistic lithography.

A small publication accompanying the exhibition is available for free when visiting the museum, while supplies last.

Curated by Rachelle van den Broek

You can see the exhibition until 26 October
