Harry Mutasa

1999

To me, art is a means that can bring together all societies and cultures around the world. There is oneness in art, there is no language, no perception of color but only the light of the soul which I believe is human.

At the age of seventeen, Harry Mutasa (1973) enrolled into an art school in the Harare ghetto neighbourhood of Bare. He stayed in the studio in Amsterdam in 1999, preparing for an exhibition in Heilo. He has also exhibited in Zimbabwe, Finland, Germany, Italy, Australia and the USA.

In his work, Mutasa aims to demonstrate that there is a different side to every story. People take a lot of things for granted and take an opposing view. Mutasa likes to look on the bright side of things. Mutasa works with weld art, which is a medium that allows the artist to express himself through metal sculptures made from different scraps of metal and abstract canvas paintings.
