In collaboration with Afrovibes Festival, Thami Mnyele Foundation is very excited to welcome a new residency award winner Isabel Hofmeyr.Isabel Hofmeyr is Professor Emeritus at the University of the Witwatersrand and was Global Distinguished Professor at New York University from 2013 to 2022. Recent publications include Dockside Reading: Hydrocolonialism and the Custom House (2022) and a co-editied a special issue on 'Reading for Water' in Interventions 24 (3) 2022. She co-directs a project 'Oceanic Humanities for the Global South' with partners from Mozambique, India, Jamaica and Barbados. On 5 October, for the exhibition The Oceanic Marigold Beads, Isabel Hofmeyr will give a keynote on Oceanic Humanities and the role and significance of oceans in cultural exchange between people and cultures. The event will happen from 17:00 to 18:30 at Frascati Nes 63, 1012 KD Amsterdam.Afrovibes organises cultural exchange between the Netherlands, countries in the African continent and the African diaspora in Europe. In an annual festival, Afrovibes shows work by contemporary African artists who artistically address current contemporary questions from an African perspective and who have an idiosyncratic vision.
