Lara Bourdin

Lara Bourdin is a freelance art writer and editor based in Toronto, Canada. She recently completed her MA in art history at the Universit de Montral, where she specialized in modern and contemporary African art and visual culture, globalization and the arts, and postcolonial theory. Her thesis, titled "The Sculpture of Irma Stern (1922-1955)," is the first study of the sculptural works of the German-Jewish South African artist Irma Stern (1894-1966). It is also the first study to conduct an in-depth and focused examination of the racial dynamics at work in Stern's relationships with her African female models.
Lara currently works as the online art editor for ZAM Magazine, a multimedia platform celebrating African creativity and new thinking based in Amsterdam. Her past collaborations and experiences include work with the African arts mobility fund Art Moves Africa in Brussels, UNHCR in Mozambique, and organizations supporting refugee and immigrant populations in Montral.
Thami Mnyele foundation together with ZAM magazine invited Lara to stay at the Thami Mynele studio in the month December 2013.
