Lazi Mathebula

2016

Lazi Mathebula, South -Africa, who goes by the name greiispaces, is a Johannesburg-based illustrator and art director. His bold illustration style can be found on T-shirts, wallpaper, iPhone and laptop covers, and stickers. He is an independent designer who believes that real creativity involves transforming the ordinary and in a sense, turning realism on its head. His work reflects a recognisable fixation on finer detailing, the intricacies of the purely African stories and a tasteful use of luminous colour to create long-lasting visual impressions.

I thrive in the grey spaces the ignored, unexposed parameters of creativity through everyday living.

Lazi Mathubela was invited in corporation with the Afrovibes Festival 2016 Amsterdam.

Mathebula has created an installation work that was self motivated and fuelled by communicating stories, in all sorts of forms; from movies, music, cooking, silence, biology nostalgia. It is about action reaction behavior that develops work with its own meaning.
