The Thami Mnyele Foundation is proud to partner for our artist in residence with the South African artist Simangaliso Sibiya, The Rijksmuseum , and the Southern Summerschool BAK. Simangaliso Sibiya is invited to focus on the exhibition in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, 'Goede Hoop'. The Rijksmuseum will be presenting the first mayor exhibition about the relationship between South Africa and the Netherlands. 400 years of emotive history in 300 items, most of which come from South Africa. Simangaliso Sibiya will work in the studio of the Thami Mnyele foundation till 19th of april.
Simangaliso Sibiya studied at the Funda Community College, Founded in 1984, Funda is one of the oldest independent training institutions in the visual arts in South Africa, established in response to the aftermath of 1976 Student Uprising informed by the inaccessibility of specialised training in the visual arts for black South Africans under apartheid. Funda was realised through proactive funding engagement from Anglo-American chairmans fund, IBM, AECI the Rembrandt Group and the German Embassy and Joint Education Trust, Funda continues to serve as a critical point of access to the visual arts sector for young black South Africans.
