2025-03-05 | Odili Donald Odita Mural at MoMa

Congratulations to our fellow Odili Donald Odita who began installing “Songs from Life”, his largest mural to date at the MoMa, NYC.

They will install during public hours through April, and upon completion the mural will remain on view for one year.

Each section of this piece centers on different songs, underscoring the idea that the MoMA lobby is a gathering space for persons from all walks of life. Viewers can listen to the playlist via QR code and enjoy the likes of Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Miriam Makeba, Aretha Franklin, Talking Heads, Annie Lennox, Bill Withers, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and many more.

The project was organized by Ugochukwu-Smooth Nzewi, The Steve and Lisa Tananbaum Curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture, with Elizabeth Wickham, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Painting and Sculpture. Maya Taylor, Department of Exhibition Planning and Administration, and Aimee Keefer and Michele Arms, Department of Exhibition Design and Production, also collaborated closely in realizing this exhibition. I am so grateful to everyone who has been an active part of this installation!
