2025-10-15 | Richard Kofi: Museum Black Futures at Theater aan de Rijn into

Museum Black Futures, curated by our fellow Richard Kofi, will transform Theater aan de Rijn into a living space for performance, storytelling, music, and collective reflection.

'The theme of the night is ‘Returning to the Sacred Mother’. Through conversation and performance we will reflect on the forts in West Africa, where enslaved ancestors were driven onto slave ships through the ‘Door of No Return’. This gate symbolized the beginning of a forced journey into the colonial economy. Together we explore how we can reverse or undermine the symbolic effect of this infamous ‘Door of No Return’. We ask: what does it mean to repair, to remember, and to dream otherwise. Beyond.'

On Thursday, October 16th, Richard Kofi will introduce the 'Museum of Black Futures'. This museum isn't a building, and it doesn't yet have a collection, but rather a kind of traveling laboratory full of performances and podcasts that create a space for free thinking. This evening, curated by Kofi, marks the start of a collaboration with the 'Museum of Black Futures', which he will further develop later this season at Theater a/d Rijn.
