2026-05-25 | Billy Gerard Frank and Richard Kofi at Theatre aan de Rijn

Our current resident, Billy Gerard Frank, is participating in the event at Theater aan de Rijn curated by the Museum of Black Futures and our fellow Richard Kofi.

💫 This night will not be horrific 💫

✨ 29 May, 8pm at Theater aan de Rijn ✨

The title refers to the propaganda used to stigmatise Afro-German children and families in the Rhineland after the First World War. Under terms such as Schwarze Schmach am Rhein and later Horror am Rhein, Black presence was deliberately framed as a threat.

With this program, The Museum of Black Futures returns to this history. Not only to remember it, but to question it, disrupt it and open it up.

Through performance, video, music and ritual, the artists selected by the Museum of Black Futures will honour the lives of these children and reclaim the words once used to humiliate them.

On this night, 'Horror' becomes something else...

a language of resilience,

a ceremony of remembrance,

a source of inspiration and hope.

The program features a selection of international artists, performers, and musicians who all share a progressive view on connecting the present, past, and future. London musician aroomerm will collaborate with Amsterdam composer Phantom Wizard. There are contributions from the mysterious Pink Zombie and Berlin artist Rebecca Pokua Korang. Theatre maker Serah Doku Meyboom and artist Femi Dawkins will perform readings and paint. Billy Gérard Frank, originally from Granada, will provide commentary on the evening.
