2026-06-12 | Razia Barsatie: at chutney at murmur, Amsterdam

Chutney at Murmur, as a part of their program on 13 June, 18:00 - 01:00, will present the works of our fellows, Razia Barsatie and CUPP collective.

Barsatie’s multidisciplinary practice explores materiality as a vessel for memory, emotion, and layered histories. Through installation, sculpture, performance, participation, photography, and text, she reflects on embodiment, childhood memories, intergenerational knowledge, and the ways trauma is carried and transformed within a Surinamese-Hindustani family context.

On view will be two interconnected projects: works developed during her six-week residency in Ghana, alongside a publication by CUPP Collective. The publication brings together insights, encounters, and material research conducted between Amsterdam and Paramaribo. Together, these projects reveal intimate connections between material, memory, care, and place. The publication was made during CUPP Collective's second residency at the Thami Mnyele Foundation.

Chutney at Murmur is an evening of Indo-Surinamese music, food, art and coming together. For the first edition, they wanted to bring together artists and selectors who move through sound with memory, migration and curiosity. From Indo-Surinamese Baithak Gana to Caribbean rhythms, the lineup traces the many routes music travels through people and places.
