2026-07-15 | Ina van Zyl: on the podcast Nooit Meer Slapen

Our fellow Ina van Zyl is on the podcast Nooit Meer Slapen!

Ina van Zyl is a painter, draughtswoman, and illustrator. During her studies, she drew for the South African comic strip ‘Bitterkomix’; now she primarily paints with oil paint. For this, she has received several awards, including the Jeanne Oosting Prize and the Thérèse Schwartze Prize for portraiture. Van Zyl works with themes such as claustrophobia, shame, sexuality, and human contact or the lack thereof, as seen in her exhibition ‘Schamstukken’. In her new exhibition ‘Where are you from’, thirty years of work come together, and she shows how she developed her visual language, in which intimacy, tension, and precision take center stage.

Ellen Deckwitz speaks with Ina van Zyl. The podcast is in Dutch.
